Affidavits submitted by former New York City Mayor Rudolph Giuliani and ex-U.S. Attorney General Michael Mukasey, who represent a Turkish gold trader accused of violating U.S. sanctions on Iran, “appear surprisingly disingenuous” for failing to mention Iran, a federal judge said.

Giuliani, senior counsel to Greenberg Traurig, and Mukasey, of counsel to Debevoise & Plimpton, are part of the defense team for Reza Zarrab, who is also accused of conspiracy to defraud the United States, conspiracy to commit bank fraud and conspiracy to commit money laundering.
