Description

In this Keynote discussion from the annual “Securities Enforcement Forum Central” event, the Chief of the SEC's Cryptocurrency Unit discusses the SEC's strong emphasis on safeguarding investors, ensuring transparency, and enforcing regulations within the cryptocurrency market. Panelists discuss the agency’s priorities related to cryptocurrencies, such as registration, disclosure, legal frameworks, and cybersecurity measures. Institutional investors are cautioned about statutory underwriter liability when dealing with tokens, with recent legal developments creating uncertainties in the securities industry.
The SEC is closely monitoring centralized and decentralized exchanges, aiming to prosecute unregistered exchanges and platforms falsely claiming decentralization. Additionally, they're closely watching developments in the DeFi space and will enforce securities laws regardless of labels. Touting cases, investor protection measures, and cybersecurity enforcement are other key priorities, emphasizing transparency and accurate disclosure to prevent market manipulation and fraud.
