A lawyer for the Jan. 6 Committee says ample evidence exists that former President Donald Trump committed crimes in connection with the riots at the Capitol, a major revelation that heightens the stakes of an already closely watched legal battle over subpoenas with Trump’s lawyer John Eastman.

In a filing Wednesday, House General Counsel Douglas Letter says the committee has “at minimum, a good-faith basis” to conclude Trump obstructed an official proceeding, as well as a “good-faith basis” to conclude he conspired to defraud the United States.
