The Jenkins Law Library is set to be closed on MondayOctober 8 for Columbus Day.

The library reopens Tuesday and resumes normal business hours of 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday. Wednesday hours are 8:30 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Events

Fox Rothschild joined the Support Center for Child Advocates as a sponsor of the agency’s seventh annual Golf Classic on Monday at the Huntingdon Valley Country Club.

All proceeds from the event will support the Child Advocates Project for Medically Needy Children, which teams staff social workers with specially trained volunteer lawyers to secure medical treatment, special education, rehabilitation services, and whenever possible, permanent homes for children with serious or chronic medical needs.

Event partner Cleantech Alliance Mid-Atlantic presented a pre-golf morning program, Digging Deep Into Marcellus Shale, an in-depth exploration of the legal, economic and environmental issues surrounding Marcellus Shale natural gas drilling.

Speakers

Stradley Ronon Stevens & Young partner Mark E. Chopko spoke at a Catholic Business Network of Northern Virginia breakfast September 6 in Alexandria, Va. Chopko shared insights from his years as general counsel of the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops.

Chopko is chair of the firm’s nonprofit and religious organizations practice group and advises clients in matters including structural, business, governance, regulatory and complex litigation.

Edward T. Butkovitz, an associate in Kleinbard Bell & Brecker‘s litigation department, is set to serve as a panelist for a presentation, “E-Discovery in Pennsylvania Courts,” at the Philadelphia Bar Association‘s Bench-Bar and Annual Conference on Saturday.

Butkovitz practices in the areas of commercial litigation, employment litigation and insurance coverage. Prior to joining the firm, he served as a judicial law clerk for Judge Mark I. Bernstein in the Commerce Court of the First Judicial District of Pennsylvania.

The Philadelphia Association of Defense Counsel is hosting a luncheon CLE program beginning at noon October 16 at the Philadelphia Racquet Club.

Walter Zimolong and Jennifer Coatsworth will offer a presentation on “Construction Defect Failure to Disclose Cases: Claims and Defenses.”

Steven D. Usdin, a shareholder in the bankruptcy, financial restructuring and risk management department at Flaster Greenberg, was tapped by the Pennsylvania Bar Institute to participate as a panelist at the 18th annual Business Lawyers’ Institute.

The panel discussion, titled “Counseling Distressed Businesses,” will discuss areas for both in-house and outside counsel to help identify signs of a company’s decline and how to advise the client in getting its financial position in place.
