More than 525 anti-LGBTQ+ bills have been introduced in 41 states this year and more than 75 have become law, according to the Human Rights Campaign (HRC). The LGBTQ+ civil rights organization provides law firms with their Corporate Equality Index rankings and has said, “We are living in a state of emergency.” On a global scale, as of May 2023, Ugandans who engage in gay sex face life in prison and, in some instances where one party is HIV positive, the death penalty.
