New York federal court filings had some fluctuations but remained steady in the fiscal year ending Sept. 30 as funding tightened, according to recently released “court management statistics.” New filings fell 7.6 percent in the Southern and 13.8 percent in the Northern District but increased 4.7 percent in the Eastern and 5.5 percent in Western District. Appellate filings in the Second Circuit fell 7.9 percent in fiscal 2013 compared 2012. Pending cases per judgeship dropped 5.2 percent in the Southern and 7.1 percent in the Northern and rose 6.9 percent in the Eastern and 3.2 percent in the Western District.
