In the final hours of the New York Assembly’s latest session, which ended last week, several members’ phones lit up almost simultaneously as they prepared to take a final vote on a long-awaited reform package for the state’s wrongful death laws.
The Albany lawmakers were receiving calls from the insurance lobby, urging them to vote against the legislation, according to a member on the floor at the time who asked not to be identified.
