An upstate New York lawmaker said critics of her proposed bill to end qualified immunity in New York have erroneously characterized it as a measure aimed at making police officers who are found responsible for excessive force financially responsible in their individual capacities.

That’s not the case, Assemblywoman Pamela Hunter, D-Syracuse, said during a press event that was designed to renew interest in the proposal.
