Citizens Financial Group’s top lawyer has departed to head a new banking services practice as a shareholder with financial services boutique law firm Murphy & McGonigle.

Stephen Gannon, until recently the general counsel and chief legal officer for the Rhode Island-based bank, is now tasked with building a new banking services practice at the New York-based boutique, to help financial service clients navigate a new wave of digital assets and cryptocurrency. His move is the latest in a string of financial service in-house lawyers moving into law firms.
