Avoiding disbarment despite committing a felony, Gordon Caplan, the former co-chairman of Willkie Farr & Gallagher, was given a two-year suspension from practicing law by a state appeals court on Thursday for his role in a much-publicized college admissions bribery scandal that generated outrage nationwide.

Caplan, 54, is the most prominent attorney swept up in the 2019 scandal that included other notable defendants such as actors Lori Loughlin and Felicity Huffman and a raft of wealthy and influential parents across America who used bribery and cheating to illegally push their children through the “backdoor” into some of the best universities in the nation.
