Drag shows have returned to the U.S. Supreme Court with an emergency request from a student LGBTQ+ rights group to permit a charity drag performance on West Texas A&M University’s campus later this month.

Spectrum WT has been fighting to stage its charity drag show since last March but has been rebuffed by school president Walter Wendler, who has opposed such performances as “derisive, divisive, and demoralizing” and denigrating to women. The rights group says Wendler is violating the First Amendment and has asked the Supreme Court for an emergency injunction that would allow the group to host this year’s event on March 22.
