On July 1, 2022, California’s amended automatic renewal law, which requires companies to provide renewal and cancel opportunity notifications to customers, is set to go into effect. But adding another regulation to the growing array of state-based subscription notification requirements is likely to keep many companies struggling—and failing—to comply, lawyers said. 

California’s Assembly Bill No. 390, which was signed into law on Oct. 4, 2021, carries the gravitas of being a law that applies to over 39 million U.S. residents.
