IP docketing provider Alt Legal announced Wednesday that it has acquired IP software provider Towergate Informatics’ Section 2(d) Citation Watch business. Alt Legal plans to close Towergate’s service and migrate its existing clients, which includes a number of law firms, to its own Section 2(d) Trademark Watch service.

Section 2(d) watch services monitor when the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) denies a trademark under Section 2(d) of the Lanham Act, meaning a USPTO attorney denies it on the grounds that it is too similar to an existing trademark and may cause confusion in the market.
