A boom in countercyclical legal work, growing billing rates and better realization powered a quarter of increased demand across the legal industry, according to a new report.

Demand increased 1.5% in the second quarter of 2023, the latest Law Firm Financial Index shows, and a 5.9% average jump in rates also helped paint a picture of an ongoing recovery among law firms, analysts wrote in the report, published Monday.
