The Supreme Court of Georgia announced today it has overturned the conviction of an attorney sentenced to life in prison for killing a man with his car, due to the Fulton County judge presiding over the trial failing to instruct the jury on what constituted an accident under the law.

Former Atlanta corporate attorney Bryan Schmitt will receive a new trial, during which he will now be able to argue that the road rage incident resulting in the killing of Hamid Jahangard in July 2019 was an accident. The court issued a unanimous opinion on April 30 reversing the judgment.
