Lateral moves in most major California markets have slowed down in 2023, according to new data from two legal industry groups, as law firms continue to cautiously approach growth.

There were 242 partner moves in Los Angeles in the first three quarters of 2023, down 32% compared with the same period in 2022, according to due diligence company Decipher Investigative Intelligence. San Francisco saw 116 partner moves, down 37% compared with 2022. Silicon Valley fared even worse, with a 44% decline to just 34 partner moves in 2023 so far.
