For Sterne, Kessler, Goldstein & Fox, a patent invalidity ruling has probably never tasted as sweet.

The firm guided Orange County, California-based Sweegen Inc. to a summary judgment win Monday, knocking out patents on sweeteners made from the Stevia rebaudiana plant. Senior Judge James Selna of the U.S. District Court for the Central District of California ruled that patent claims from competitor PureCircle Sdn Bhd failed to satisfy patent eligibility and written description requirements.
