A seven-year-old patent battle that’s wound through the Federal Circuit and two Massachusetts district court trials ended Thursday with a modest verdict for Dutch electronics corporation Koninklijke Philips N.V.
A jury awarded Philips $10 million for Zoll Medical Corp.’s infringement of three Philips patents on defibrillator technology—far less than the $217 million Philips had requested during opening statements of the damages trial last week. That had Zoll’s attorneys at Irell & Manella, who joined the case after the 2013 liability trial, claiming victory.
