A federal appeals court has closed the door on a decade-long suit by 65 New Jersey car dealers contesting surcharges by Ford Motor Co.

Finding the surcharges did not violate New Jersey’s Franchise Practices Act, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit on Monday reversed a district judge’s grant of summary judgment and with it a $2.7 million damages award to four bellwether plaintiffs.
