In releasing his fall agenda Aug. 25, Gov. Tom Wolf asked lawmakers to pass a bill legalizing recreational marijuana for adults. Wolf’s proposal would direct the tax revenue from the sale of the drug to programs to help repair what he has called “the harm done to crime victims and communities as a result of marijuana criminalization.”

Roughly half of the proposed tax income would go to help business that are more than half owned and operated by people who are Black, Hispanic, Native American or Pacific Islander—all groups that have traditionally been discriminated against when it comes to financial dealings. Wolf said he hoped there will be support for legalizing marijuana use for those at least 21 years of age.
