Kim Williams, who assisted her former judge husband in the slayings of the Kaufman County district attorney, his wife and an assistant prosecutor, avoided the death penalty when she pleaded guilty Dec. 30 to first-degree murder in exchange for a 40-year prison sentence.

Earlier this month, Williams testified in the capital murder trial of Eric Williams, a former lawyer and justice of the peace who was accused of murdering Kaufman County D.A. Mike McLelland; his wife, Cynthia McLelland; and Assistant D.A. Mark Hasse. Eric Williams was sentenced to death by a jury on Dec. 17.
