On May 12, a pair of waitresses who claimed they were sexual harassed on the job received a $50,000 settlement. In 2006, Melanie Brown and Sheri Walls complained to the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission that they had been sexually harassed by the general manager at Winslow’s Restaurant in Fredericksburg. They claimed the harassment included sexual comments and unwanted physical conduct. They also alleged they were subjected to retaliation after they reported the behavior. They said their employment conditions became so intolerable that they were forced to quit. The EEOC sued Winslow’s on behalf of Walls and Brown, alleging civil rights violations. Winslow’s denied the allegations, but the parties agreed to the settlement before trial.
