If you’ve exhausted everything in your streaming movie or television queue, finished your summer reading list, or plowed through everything on your “to-do” list—and are still looking for something to pass the time, then look no further. It’s time for legal weirdness, and let me tell you—it’s been pretty strange out there.

How strange? Well, no matter how many times I’ve written about stupid criminals, they never cease to amaze me. Take Justin C. Carter, for example. The 24 year-old Georgia man was a fugitive from the law with a nationwide warrant out for his arrest. But while on the lam in South Carolina, Mr. Carter needed a job to make ends meet. So, he filled out an online employment application—for a job at the Monticello, Arkansas, police department! Alert Monticello police decided to invite Mr. Carter for a visit after running a background check and discovering his true identity. Believing that the patrol officer position he’d applied for required a physical fitness test, Mr. Carter met police authorities at the local Monticello High School track. The police kept a straight face while administering the test, and once it was completed, they took Carter into custody, pending transport of the unlucky fugitive back to Georgia.
