A woman whose thumb was severed in a pit bull attack received a $1.62 million settlement in her Bergen County suit, Olsen v. Eleventh Hour Rescue, on Aug. 17.

Carol Olsen was visiting a friend, Michael Cabibo, at his apartment in Mahwah on March 13, 2021, when a pit bull named Alamo bit her leg, then bit off her right thumb when she pushed it away. Cabibo was caring for the dog temporarily while an organization called Eleventh Hour Rescue sought a permanent home for the animal, said Olsen’s attorney, Christopher T. DiGirolamo of Maggiano, DiGirolamo & Lizzi in Fort Lee.
