The Lawyers’ Fund for Client Protection, which is funded by New Jersey’s lawyers and judges, reported that it paid more than $350,000 to clients for losses caused by 11 lawyers in the first quarter of the year.

The fund’s board of trustees is made up of five attorneys and two public members. They serve staggered five-year terms without compensation. The fund operates under the authority of the New Jersey Supreme Court Rule 1:28. The fund’s purpose is to pay for the wrongdoing of the lawyers. In its 54-year history, the fund has paid claims against 887 attorneys. New Jersey has 99,364 licensed attorneys.
