A $1.5 million settlement received court approval on Jan. 31 in the Union County case brought on behalf of a construction worker who died in a job site fall, Estate of Fernandez-Zhicay v. American Landmark Developers.

On March 12, 2019, Angel Oswaldo Fernandez-Zhicay, 27, an Ecuadoran immigrant, was working for a framing subcontractor at the site, a multi-level apartment complex on Bonnel Court in Union Township. Fernandez-Zhicay was on the top floor helping move roof trusses that were being lifted from the ground by a crane, according to the plaintiffs’ counsel, Walter Dana Venneman of Gill & Chamas in Woodbridge.
