New York Gov. Kathy Hochul’s on-again, off-again proposal to divert tens of millions of dollars from an attorneys’ fund that pays for low-income New Yorkers to receive civil legal services is back on, an Interest on Lawyers Accounts executive said, as negotiations with lawmakers on a $237 billion proposed state budget were winding down.

Christopher O’Malley, executive director of the Interest on Lawyers Account Fund of the State of New York, told the Law Journal on Wednesday that he received a call from Hochul’s office late Tuesday informing him of its plan to target $55 million from the IOLA fund.
