Transforming New York family courts into a less backlogged, more compassionate unit is the judiciary’s priority in fiscal 2025, Chief Administrative Judge Joseph Zayas told lawmakers on Thursday.

Zayas, who assumed the post in May, asked a joint legislative body studying Gov. Kathy Hochul’s proposed $233 billion executive budget for a $2.7 billion share in spending for the fiscal year that begins in April, a $131.2 million or 5.2% increase from this year.
