Innovative ideas and proposals abound concerning the operation and jurisdiction of the Appellate Division, First Department, widely considered the pre-eminent intermediate state appellate court in the country. At the court’s helm now, as presiding justice, is the Hon. Dianne Renwick, a dynamic and experienced judge who will ably lead the court in the years ahead.

Some of the ideas and proposals we advance here have previously been brought to the attention of the Bar, but we believe they deserve renewed attention and scrutiny, especially given the evident willingness of the new United Court System (UCS) leadership team to embrace more efficient ways of doing things.
