At a meeting hosted by Paul, Weiss, Rifkind, Wharton & Garrison on Wednesday morning, a group of leading attorneys from law firms, corporate legal departments and universities gathered to discuss a game plan they laid out for employers, schools and others that seeks to enhance DEI efforts without leaving such organizations vulnerable to pushback from conservative legal activists.

The group is part of a New York State Bar Association task force that released recommendations for law firms, employers, the judiciary and law schools in the wake of the U.S. Supreme Court’s ruling on affirmative action. Among its major conclusions, their report said colleges and graduate schools that want to achieve diversity should eliminate the preferential treatment in admissions given to athletes, the children of alumni and the family of donors.
