As summer draws to a close and a new appellate court term begins, I am pleased to continue the tradition begun by my successful and well-regarded predecessor, Rolando T. Acosta, of bringing the bench, bar and public up to date on developments at the Appellate Division, First Department. It is my distinct honor and privilege to take the helm as presiding justice of this court.

I am grateful to Gov. Kathy Hochul for her confidence in me and for the opportunity to lead one of the preeminent appellate courts in the country. Having served on the court for over 15 years, I am eager to take on the responsibilities and challenges of this new role. I look forward to continuing to work with my colleagues and staff in managing our court and delivering justice. It will likewise be a privilege to work with Chief Judge Rowan D. Wilson, Chief Administrative Judge Joseph A. Zayas, and my fellow presiding justices on the Administrative Board of the Courts to establish statewide standards and policies to improve the courts of our state.
