A bill under consideration in the New York Legislature would triple what certain public defenders and prosecutors could receive from a state student loan reimbursement program.

Jane Fox, Legal Aid Society Chapter Chair at the 3,000-member Association of Legal Aid Attorneys, helped write the measure, S4511A/A1568B, which she says would help decrease the “churn and burn” of experienced public-service lawyers defecting to government and private-sector jobs out of financial necessity.
