Lawyers for former President Donald Trump are requesting a new trial after their client was found liable of sexually abusing E. Jean Carroll—calling the multi-million dollar verdict “grossly excessive.”

A jury last month awarded the writer $2 million for the sexual abuse finding and $3 million for defamation claims. While Carroll testified Trump raped her, the jury did not find him civilly liable for rape.
