On Friday February 10, the Henry B. Northrup Award for Excellence in Enhancing Equal Justice in the Courts was presented to Judge Edwina Mendelson by Norman St. George, deputy chief administrative judge for courts outside New York.

The award recognizes Mendelson’s works to fulfill the promise of racial equity in the New York State court system through extraordinary leadership, and by creating meaningful and lasting change by improving access to justice for all. The award is named in honor of Henry B. Northup, who represented Solomon Northrup in court cases held in Saratoga County to obtain his freedom after he was illegally captured and forced into slavery in the south.
