The Brooklyn U.S. Attorney’s Office did not initiate its criminal investigation into Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s coronavirus task force and its handling of COVID-19 in nursing homes until after the audio recording of a Cuomo aide’s call with state lawmakers became public last week, a source with knowledge of the matter told the Law Journal on Thursday.

The existence of the new investigation was first reported late Wednesday by the Times Union in Albany.
