Walden Macht & Haran on Tuesday filed a federal racketeering lawsuit against Twitter and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia—alleging the country illegally infiltrated Twitter’s confidential user databases in order to surveille, silence, torture and kill critics of the regime living abroad.

The lawsuit was filed by the New York City-based firm on behalf of plaintiff siblings Abdulrahman Al-Sadhan and Areej Al-Sadhan. Abdulrahman was kidnapped, imprisoned and tortured for operating an anonymous Twitter account critical of the Saudi regime, the lawsuit states. His family has not heard from him since 2021.
