When the House Jan. 6 select committee presented testimony it gathered from many of former President Donald Trump’s top aides, the panel didn’t call them in for live questioning, but instead rolled the tape.

The select committee relied heavily on dozens of pre-recorded witness depositions and interviews to present its narrative of a president who hatched a multi-pronged conspiracy to cling to power despite losing the election. The videos, trimmed down to easily digestible clips, produced many of the indelible moments from the committee’s hearings.
