A trademark infringement complaint is the most recent salvo in a battle between the League of United Latin American Citizens (LULAC) and three of its former Texas officers.

On July 10, Florinda “Linda” Chavez, Beatrice “Bea” Martinez, Joe Cardenas III and others sued LULAC, president Margaret Moran, treasurer Roger Rocha and Southwest regional director Baldomero Garza, all in their official capacities. They alleged that LULAC’s national board of directors had violated their due-process rights and LULAC’s constitutional bylaws when it removed them from their Texas LULAC posts. Chavez had been state director; Martinez was deputy state director; and Cardenas was immediate past state director. The defendants deny the allegations, says their lawyer, LULAC general counsel Luis Roberto Vera Jr.
