240th District Judge Thomas Culver III will never forget the day he graduated from law school. It was hectic: after walking the stage, he rushed 185 miles back home to get married that afternoon.

Culver and his soon-to-be wife met at Baylor University in Waco. They set their wedding date a full week after he was supposed to graduate from Baylor University School of Law. But after the wedding invitations went out, the law school decided to move its commencement to avoid the hubbub of the main university’s ceremonies. It was too late to switch course for the nuptials.
