On Aug. 31, a judge ruled in favor of a dog owner accused of failing to control his dog after it attacked a letter carrier. In 2006, Cynthia Williams was delivering mail to Perry Sable’s home in Houston. Sable’s wife, who was standing in the fenced-in yard and holding his Catahoula hound by its collar, opened the gate to let Sable in just as Williams approached the house. The dog escaped through the open gate and bit Williams. She sustained a puncture wound on her left arm, but it did not cause any permanent damage or scars. Sable denied that he was liable for the incident, arguing that he wasn’t in control of the dog at the time. He also contended the dog had never bitten a human before. In a summary judgment, Judge Linda Storey found that Sable was not negligent and dismissed the case.
