In 2009, the U.S.Census Bureau reported the minority population of Philadelphia was 51.4 percent. Yet, according to the National Association for Law Placement (NALP) study released in November, of the combined 2,128 lawyers from the 17 law firms that reported their numbers, only 8.55 percent were minorities.

Not only do these numbers demonstrate that minority representation is still extremely low among law firms, but the NALP study also notes that minority representation within the law firms has actually decreased in the last year.
