Ronnie Abrams, special counsel for pro bono at Davis Polk & Wardwell, has been nominated by the White House for the U.S. District Court for the Southern District. Ms. Abrams, 43, rejoined Davis Polk in 2008 after 10 years at the Southern District U.S. Attorney’s Office, where she rose to chief of the general crimes unit and then deputy chief of the Criminal Division. She received the U.S. Department of Justice Director’s Award for Superior Performance for two cases, according to her biography on Davis Polk’s website. The first case involved the convictions of members of a Colombian gang wanted for the murder of a New York City police detective and some 100 armed robberies; the second case was for the convictions of leaders of the Bloods gang.

Ms. Abrams, who is the daughter of Floyd Abrams, the veteran First Amendment attorney and a partner at Cahill Gordon & Reindel, first joined Davis Polk as an associate in 1994 after graduating from Yale Law School in 1993. She is also an adjunct professor at Columbia Law School, where she teaches about investigating and prosecuting federal criminal cases.
