The Suffolk County District Attorney’s Office has tapped Emily A. Constant as chief assistant district attorney. Ms. Constant, previously the chief of investigations, is the first woman to hold the chief assistant position in the office’s 192-year-history. As chief assistant, she will run the day-to-day operations of the office and report directly to Suffolk County District Attorney Thomas Spota. “I’m thrilled and honored,” Ms. Constant said of her promotion.

Ms. Constant replaces John Buonora, who participated in the state’s early retirement program. Ms. Constant said he retired in August after holding the position since January 2002, when Mr. Spota first became district attorney. Ms. Constant has been the acting chief assistant since then and her formal promotion became effective last week. Christopher McPartland, who headed the office’s governmental corruption bureau, will take over Ms. Constant’s former position.
