ALBANY – The state Commission on Judicial Nomination should interview candidates for future openings on the state Court of Appeals if as few as two of the 12 commission members agree, an influential state senator is urging.

Senator John L. Sampson’s suggestion was among the approximately 20 comments from groups and individuals the commission received on new regulations it proposed this summer. Members, including new chairwoman Judith S. Kaye, say the proposals are designed to allow the commission to cast a wider net and attract diverse applicants for the state’s highest court (NYLJ, July 27).
