An employment retaliation case challenging the FBI’s hiring practices after the Sept. 11 terror attacks is scheduled for trial this month, and jurors are expected to hear testimony from former Director Louis Freeh.
Bassem Youssef, the highest-ranking Arab-American at the FBI, says he was denied career-advancing posts after complaining to a member of Congress and to FBI Director Robert Mueller III about cultural problems in the agency’s management ranks. One of his chief complaints: that he was denied an opportunity to work on the investigation into the Sept. 11 attacks despite being fluent in Arabic and having a lengthy background in counterterrorism.
