Gross prosecutorial misconduct by federal prosecutors will mean a new trial for five former New Orleans police officers convicted for their roles in the Danziger Bridge shootings following Hurricane Katrina.

U.S. District Judge Kurt Engelhardt on Tuesday faulted prosecutors for posting online anonymous comments about the defendants, who were convicted of civil-rights violations stemming from the September 4, 2005, fatal shooting of two unarmed people and the wounding of four others on the bridge.
