With a Democrat back in the Oval Office, Miami attorney Lisa Lehner hoped the Florida Federal Judicial Nominating Commission would include more women this time around. She was "appalled" when she found out that the membership of the 56-member board in charge of recommending federal judges and U.S. Attorneys in Florida was a done deal, with only 11 women. Lehner, director of the Florida Association for Women Lawyers' Miami-Dade chapter, has heard from a number of women lawyers concerned about gender bias.

With a Democrat back in the Oval Office for the first time in eight years, Miami attorney Lisa Lehner hoped the board in charge of recommending federal judges and U.S. Attorneys would include more women this time around.
U.S. District Judge Daniel T.K. Hurley in West Palm Beach announced last week he was going to senior status, so Lehner called the office of U.S. Sen. Bill Nelson, D-Fla., to lobby for the addition of more women professionals to the panel vetting candidates.
