Beatty was sentenced on two counts of obstruction of justice for lying about an affair with her boss during a police whistleblower trial that cost the city $8.4 million, which was revealed in text messages published by the Detroit Free Press last January.

As part of her plea agreement, Beatty, who was attending law school when the scandal broke, also is prohibited from taking or receiving any credit for any law school courses during the five years of her probation.
