A restraining order that barred a man from being anywhere near his ex-wife — a proviso he violated by attending his child’s soccer game — was beyond the domestic violence statute’s scope, a state appeals court held Tuesday in reversing a conviction.

The language at issue in State v. S.K. , A-1488-10, required the defendant to stay away from his ex-wife’s home and place of employment and “any other place where [she] is located.”
