Seven months after it was slapped with a hefty malpractice verdict, Los Angeles firm Rutter, Hobbs & Davidoff Inc. is preparing to dissolve.

The 30-attorney firm is losing about half its lawyers, including name partner Brian Davidoff, to L.A.’s Greenberg Glusker, according to two people familiar with the situation. The firms had previously been in merger talks. Greenberg’s Managing Partner Stephen Smith and Norman Levine, who stepped down as firm managing partner in June, didn’t respond to requests for comment. Davidoff didn’t respond to an email and Rutter corporate practice head Joel Weinstein declined to comment.
